Chinese soldiers disinfect quake-hit areas

Since the disaster struck on April 25th, a 60-member unit of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army has been conducting a disinfection operation in the countrys worst-affected regions. Despite extreme heat, the military unit from southwest Chinas Chengdu Military Area Command is on the frontline working to prevent outbreaks. 

More than 600 people were relocated to this temporary settlement in the Chuchepati Region of Kathmandu. At 7 a.m. on May 22nd, a ten-member team of the Chinese unit was sent to the settlement to disinfect an area of more than 12,000 square meters. So far, this is the fourth time that Chinese soldiers have performed a disinfection operation in this region.

"We disinfect the area with both sanitizers and pesticides. In this way, we can kill viruses, bacteria, mosquitoes and flies to prevent any epidemic," said Han Lei, Company Commander of Chinese Army Anti-Chemical Warfare Unit.
